Ahead of Kate Allen’s book tour this week to celebrate the launch of her novel, Fear of Flying I was honoured to be given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Liv has lost everything.
She now has no family, no college education, no direction, and no plan. Well, she does have a plan – to dull her pain with alcohol and pull herself together long enough to make a trip to Scotland to scatter her aunt’s ashes.
A chance encounter on the flight to Europe leads to a lasting friendship that Liv comes to rely on above all else.
But as Liv grapples with the tragedies of her past, is there room in her broken life for another person?
As you probably guessed from the blurb this is a pretty emotional novel but I really enjoyed it. Liv’s life is anything but easy after her adopted mum dies leaving her her no family and no friends. However a chance encounter on a flight to scatter her ashes she meets Collin, a handsome American who splits his time between Amsterdam and America. What follows is a mixture of happiness, tears, anger, guilt….pretty much every feeling you could have.
The story has a beautiful flow and it sucks you in and doesn’t let go until the end, in fact I finished it in 2 days. Seeing Liv try to sort her life out is at times exasperating and other times inspirational and you will go from wanting to hug her to wanting to shake some sense into her.
The emotions of the characters were portrayed so well you often find yourself experiencing them as if you were Liv. Her story is heartbreaking and at times uplifting and I would recommend this to anyone who is into romance.
This is not your typical romance book, the plot lines at times follow the romance rules but the events and adventures makes this book so much more than just a boy meets girl book.
Are you into romance novels? Who is your favourite writer?
