Top October Releases

How are we nearly at the end of September already? These months just keep going faster and it’s hard to keep up.

Ok so first things first I did miss September’s anticipated reads, but in my defence, holidays and illness got in the way. However we are about to go into one of the best months of the year, yes that’s right, Spooky season. Although sadly not really any spooky books on here, you can bet i will be reading a few horrors and spooky books this October. So without further ado here are my anticipated reads for books releasing in October 2022!!

Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle4th October

We actually feature this in our upcoming podcast episode as one to read this month and it sounds like such a nice read. I love spooky season for the witchy, magic and the horror reads and I love the festive season for the cosy, hallmarkesque rom coms and this one is a great mix of magic and romance.

Bettie Hughes once knew the comfort of luxury . . . before she lost all her money. Long obsessed with her public image, Bettie boasts an extravagant lifestyle on social media but in reality she’s broke and her family has no idea.

Christmas, with all its pressure to meet familial expectations, is looming when Bettie plays a vinyl record of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ backward and accidentally conjures up Hall, the Holiday Spirit, in the form of a charming and handsome man. Once the shock wears off, Bettie knows she’s stumbled upon the greatest gift: a chance to make all her holiday wishes come true, plus a ready-made fiancé.

But as some of Bettie’s wishes lose their charm, she finds herself thrown off-kilter by Hall’s sweet nature. Suddenly, grumpy Bettie is finding her heart merry and light. But the happier she gets, the shorter Hall’s time on earth grows. Can Bettie channel the Christmas spirit and learn to live with goodwill toward all men? Or will her selfish ways return as soon as the holidays are over?

Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng – 4th October

Having previously read and loved Everything I Never Told you, I am intrigued with her next novel which is described as a dystopic fiction. Tackling many contemporary issues this is sure to be an intense but stunning read. Also I have a thing about quills and so this cover caught my attention straight away.

Our Missing Hearts is an old story made new, of the ways supposedly civilized communities can ignore the most searing injustice. It’s a story about the power—and limitations—of art to create change, the lessons and legacies we pass on to our children, and how any of us can survive a broken world with our hearts intact.

The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy – 25th October

This is potentially one of my most anticipated reads for October. We last had the pleasure of Cormac’s novels all the way back in 2006 with The Road. If you you haven’t read this and you like your postapocalyptic stories you have to go out and buy this. Cormac McCarthy is a genius and you may have also heard of his previous novel, No Country for Old Men which was also made into a film

But I digress, the point is I am very excited to see he is releasing not one but TWO novels this year. The first is out end of October followed by the 2nd in December.

A SUNKEN JET. NINE PASSENGERS. A MISSING BODY.

The Passenger is the story of a salvage diver, haunted by loss, afraid of the watery deep, pursued for a conspiracy beyond his understanding, and longing for a death he cannot reconcile with God

.

The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake – 25th October

This is a sequel to Olivie’s fantasy debut novel, The Atlas Six which I am sad to say is still on my shelf waiting to be read. But nonetheless I am very excited to see what happens (once I have read the first one)

Six magicians were offered the opportunity of a lifetime.
Five are now members of the Society.
And two paths lie before them.

In this thrilling next instalment, the secret society of Alexandrians is unmasked. Its newest recruits realize the institute is capable of raw, world-changing power. It’s also headed by a man with plans to change life as we know it – and these are already under way. But the cost of this knowledge is as high as the price of power, and each initiate must choose which faction to follow. Yet as events gather momentum and dangers multiply, which of their alliances will hold? Can friendships hold true and are enemies quite what they seem?

It Starts with Us by Colleen Hoover – 18th October

We are always talking about CoHo on our podcast as she seems to constantly monopolise bestseller lists and I doubt this one will be any different. I will admit I am one of the rare few who is still yet to read any of hers. But for fans of CoHo this one is the prequel to It Ends with Us which is very popular in the Bookstagram community. So watch out on 18th October as it hits the shelves and goes straight to number 1 in the NY Times Bestseller list.

Lily and her ex-husband, Ryle, have just settled into a civil co-parenting rhythm when she suddenly bumps into her first love, Atlas, again. After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when Atlas asks her on a date.

But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

Switching between the perspectives of Lily and Atlas, It Starts with Us picks up right where the epilogue for the bestselling phenomenon It Ends with Us left off. Revealing more about Atlas’s past and following Lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband, it proves that “no one delivers an emotional read like Colleen Hoover” (Anna Todd, bestselling author).

The Rise of the Dragon by George R.R Martin 25th October

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last 5 years you will have heard of the infamous Game of Thrones series. Starting off as a book series, before being made into a hit TV show (we don’t talk about the last season though) Game of Thrones has been a massive success. I have read most of the books and I can’t deny that they are all really good reads. They are heavy going at times especially as the multiple narratives are made up of so so many different characters that it can be hard to keep track until you are used to who is who. But I would highly recommend them if you love your fantasy books. George R R Martin is back in October with his new novel, an illustrated history of the Targaryen Dynasty, which sounds like an exciting read. This is a must for any Game of Thrones fans and has been released to coincide the prequel TV show on at the moment, House of the Dragon.

For hundreds of years, the Targaryens sat the Iron Throne of Westeros while their dragons ruled the skies. The story of the only family of dragonlords to survive Valyria’s Doom is a tale of twisty politics, alliances and betrayals, and acts both noble and craven. The Rise of the Dragon chronicles the creation and rise of Targaryen power in Westeros, covering the history first told in George R. R. Martin’s epic Fire & Blood, from Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros through to the infamous Dance of the Dragons―the bloody civil war that nearly undid Targaryen rule for good.

Packed with all-new artwork, the Targaryens―and their dragons―come vividly to life in this deluxe reference book. Perfect for fans steeped in the lore of Westeros, as well as those who first meet the Targaryens in the HBO series House of the Dragon, The Rise of the Dragon provides a must-have overview for anyone looking to learn more about the most powerful family in Westeros.
