Can reading ever be bad for you? Lockdown, books and mental health.

Here in England we are currently in the middle of lockdown number 2. This means more time inside the house as the days are getting colder and wetter (in true British style) This means the idea of exercising outside isn’t as appealing as it once was in the summer months.

This is the time when mental health is an especially important topic to discuss. 2020 has not been easy for most of us, for a lot of us it has been stressful, scary and tough. But we are getting through it, this won’t last forever.

I watched a film the other night called The Secret: Dare to Dream which made me think about a lot of things including my current mental health which I will admit hasn’t been particularly good recently.

Book review – Girl Erased by Gemma Donoghue

This is the first of, hopefully, many indie authors I am reviewing for my site. Girl Erased is the latest novel by Gemma Donoghue. So without further ado let’s have a bit of an overview:

Lily Johnson is always there. But no one sees her. Because she is invisible. Silent. Unnoticed.

Cover Reveal – Sorcerer’s Bride by Imogene Nix

Imogene Nix has revealed the cover of her next novel of the Blood Secrets series.

I read the first two, Blood Bride and Illuminated Witch and they were both great reads. Perfect if you are a fan of paranormal romance books.

This next one looks like it is going to be another great title by Imogene.

Book Review – Zookeepers Wife by Diane Ackerman

This was the final book of my own personal alphabet challenge which I will be writing about soon.

It took a while to find a book title beginning with Z that sounded interesting but this one piqued my interest. Firstly, because it is based on a true story and secondly because it is set in WW2. Since having read Tattooist of Auschwitz and Cilka’s Journey I have become intrigued with stories based in this time period, so I thought I would give this one a go.

Book Review – Post Script by Cecelia Ahern

My first book review on the new site and I wanted to start off with a good one and I found the perfect one and it just so happens to be the first book I read of November.

First off I have to say this is my favourite read of 2020 so far, without a shadow of a doubt!!

So let’s have a bit of blurb:

It’s been seven years since Holly Kennedy’s husband died – six since she read his final letter, urging Holly to find the courage to forge a new life.

She’s proud of all the ways in which she has grown and evolved. But when a group inspired by Gerry’s letters, calling themselves the PS, I Love You Club, approaches Holly asking for help, she finds herself drawn back into a world that she worked so hard to leave behind.

Reluctantly, Holly begins a relationship with the club, even as their friendship threatens to destroy the peace she believes she has achieved. As each of these people calls upon Holly to help them leave something meaningful behind for their loved ones, Holly will embark on a remarkable journey – one that will challenge her to ask whether embracing the future means betraying the past, and what it means to love someone forever…
