Book Review – The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox

What has been your favourite read this month so far?

For me, it has to be the Holiday Swap. It is the perfect combination of love, families, drama and food.

This is your typical twin Swap story. After an accident on the set of the hit baking show in L.A she co-hosts with douche bag, Austin, Charlie loses consciousness and afterwards loses her taste and sense of smell, which for a job which requires you to judge contestant’s recipes spells disaster. She needs to make a good impression so she can prove herself to be in with a chance to host her own baking show but she can’t do that with no sense of taste or smell. So what does she do? She calls her twin sister, Cass to take her place for 10 days and they swap lives, with Charlie going back to work at her family’s bakery in a small town, what’s the worst that can happen?

This was a pleasure to read, I am always on the look out for foodie books and this one ticked all the boxes. You had the relatable, fun characters, the family dramas, the love interests and the cosy festive feel. Not to mention the delicious sounding food.

Charlie and Cass are really interesting characters, although identical twins they initially seem very different but more similarities appear as the story progresses. This is a book about self discovery and realising what is important in life. It’s also about stepping outside your comfort zone in order to realise what they really want out of life.

Then we have Miguel and Jake who are your typical good looking love interests but I especially liked the contrast in their personalities from the hunky fireman to the smart physician’s assistant.

I also loved that once again we had a dual narrative so we gained an insight into both the twin’s lives before, during and after the swap. Like all good festive rom coms we get a wonderful, cheery ending which ties up all the loose ends nicely and leaves you feeling festive as well as in the mood to do some baking.

It was the perfect holiday cosy read and I cannot recommend it enough!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – the perfect festive book to read with a hot chocolate under a fluffy blanket
