The Sister Surprise by Abigail Mann

How would you react if you suddenly found out you had a half sister you never knew about?

Me, I would be pretty shocked especially as I am one of 5 siblings already but I don’t think I would have been as shocked as the main character, Ava who believed she was an only child her whole life. To make it worse she finds out during a DNA test reveal on a live online stream in front of thousands of viewers. So, what does she do?

Book Review – The Lake House by Christie Barlow

This is another title I was given access to from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. It was released at the end of 2020 and I am honoured to be able to review it for you.

The Lake House is part of a series called the Love Heart Lane series and this was my first novel I have read in the series. This particular novel focuses on Ella Johnson who has had possibly the worst 12 months you could imagine. To start afresh her best friend, Callie invites her to come live with her in a small Scottish village called Heartcross. A community where everyone knows everybody and are supportive of each other. Callie gets her a job as a waitress at a beautiful, lakeside restaurant which is struggling for business. On her first day at work she makes a suggestion to save the restaurant which not only could put it back on the map but also helps her find her way back to happiness.

This book is the perfect cosy read for lockdown. It has everything you could want in a romantic comedy from drama and tears to love and laughter.

Once again the location of Scotland and the description of the village makes me want to visit the country even more. You have a great variety of characters in this from the eccentric and elegant neighbour to the typical dark, tall and handsome stranger. There are also some nice little twists but nothing too stressful or tense.

Overall it is just a nice, comforting, cosy read, perfect for these cold lockdown days and nights.

If you are looking for a light read to perk you up and help you look on the positive side of things this is a great read.

This book is a great reminder that however bad things get there is a way out of it and you will get through it. Just like this lockdown!!

I will certainly be reading the previous books in the series as soon as I can get my hands on them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ – fun, feel good read for lockdown, recommended if you need something to put a smile on your face.

Have you read this book or any in the series? What did you think?

Book Review – Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I received this book through a giveaway on Bookstagram from the wonderful @bristolianbooks and let me start by saying I am so glad I entered and won!!

This is the first in the series and I must admit before receiving this book I hadn’t really heard much about the series. But I was intrigued after reading the blurb.

Book Review – Curse Bound by Imogene Nix

This is another book gifted to me by givemethedeets and Imogene Nix in return for an honest review.

If you have been reading my previous reviews or posts on Instagram you will see I am a big fan of Imogene’s Blood Secrets trilogy and so I jumped at the chance to review this one.

This time we are following Tabitha, a female who recently lost her father and returns to her family home to try and solve a family mystery and release two lost ancestors from purgatory. When tall, dark and handsome, Christian arrives it complicates matters but also helps her on her quest.

I must admit I really enjoyed the concept of this. Imogene has a great way of storytelling and it shone through once again in this novel.

The characters were not as intriguing as Blood Secrets but Imogene kept you hooked nonetheless to find out what happens next.

I loved how the writer used a variety of reality and dreams to tell the story as it made it a more rounded tale and really brought the characters to life.

However, I felt the romance side of the story was too rushed and the tension was not built up as well as in her previous titles. Nevertheless if you are into your steamy scenes there are a few to indulge yourself in here.

⭐⭐⭐ – great storytelling, the romance was a bit lacking in my opinion but recommended if you like your paranormal romance stories.

Book Review – Saving Phoebe Murrow by Herts Feely

This was a book I have had on my shelf for YEARS, and never got round to it. It always sounded interesting but I just never picked it up. So as one of the prompts for Ghost of Bookmas Present is a book you haven’t read yet, I thought of this one. Now I know why it has been on the shelf gathering dust

Ready Player Two By Ernest Cline

Parcival and co are back! This time they are on a quest to seek down the 7 shards of the Siren. But unlike the first quest they don’t know what the end reward is.

I loved Ready Player One so I couldn’t wait for the sequel and I wasn’t disappointed.
