Book Tour – Nothing’s As It Seems by Holly Brandon

It’s time for another book tour, yes two in one day, or two for the price of one you lucky people 😉 This time we go from thriller to contemporary rom com in the shape of Nothing’s as it seems by Holly Brandon. This is the 2nd book in the Life in the Chastity zone series and although I haven’t read the first one I don’t feel like I missed out too much as I was still able to read it as a standalone and keep up with what was going on.

Chastity Morgan is a woman in her 30s who is looking for a man, someone she can settle down with and also lose her virginity too. However, the star of the show is her family  which is made up of a crazy mix of personalities from the bubbly, loving cousin, Roxie to the pushy grandma who is determined to see her granddaughter paired up with a man sooner rather than later.

At first you will see this book as a simple, light hearted rom com, but as events unfold there are all different genres mixed in, including a bit of the supernatural, from the adorable neighbour, Daphne who just happens to be a young girl who is also psychic.

This is a fun, light read with some emotional moments in it. The pacing at times was a little too slow for my liking, and I feel that it could have been edited down to a shorter novel. However, this is very much a character driven novel and this is an area where the writer excelled. The first person narrative we get from Chastity helps us to become immersed in her world as we are brought along on her failed romantic encounters, blind dates and sometimes wild adventures. She also has the daunting task of finding a career now she has graduated as an engineer.

I especially liked the contrast of the main character who is very feminine but who is also working at getting into a very male dominated industry. She is very smart and although she doesn’t always use her brain when it comes to her love life, she excelled in her studies and has overcome many tough obstacles in her life to get where she is today. She is a great example of a strong, intellectual woman who although independent just wants to be loved and find “the one” whoever he may be.

My favourite character though has to be the grandma. As we progress through the novel we discover just how desperate she is for Chastity to settle down and find a man, and the lengths she goes to try and hook her up with any man she can in the hopes that one of them will be the man for her. She is the perfect example of a woman from that generation as she believes that to excel in life and be happy you need a man who loves you. However, grandma’s life wasn’t all plain sailing either as we find out later on when we discover her dark secret which she has hidden from her family for most of her life.

If you like light hearted, fun rom coms and don’t mind the slower pacing this is definitely a good book for you.

⭐⭐⭐💫-  a fun rom com read full of great characters who are well rounded, quirky and make the story into an often hilarious adventure.

About the author

When Holly Brandon broke free from her analytical side to produce Life in the Chastity Zone, she had no idea that her dream of a fiction writer would become a reality. Brandon holds a PhD., M.S., and B.S. in Civil Engineering. The accolades she received (and continues to receive!) from Life in the Chastity Zone, the first in a brand-new Chastity series, have transferred her published engineering status to fiction charts. Now with a second book of the Chastity Series under her belt, Nothing’s As It Seems, Brandon continues to regale readers with Chastity Morgan’s often-zany adventures. Unbelievable as it may appear, many of the scenes in Life in the Chastity Zone and Nothing’s As It Seems are based on true-life experiences.

Much love 💘
