ABOUT THE AUTHOR

For most of her working life in publishing, Anne has had a foot in both camps as a writer and an editor, moving from book publishing to magazines and then freelancing in both.

Having edited both fiction and narrative non-fiction, she has also had short stories published in a variety of magazines including Bella and Candis and is the author of seven non-fiction books.

Telling stories is Anne’s first love and nearly all her short fiction as well as Dancers in The Wind and Death’s Silent Judgement began with a real event followed by a ‘what if …’.
That is also the case with the two prize-winning 99Fiction.net stories: Codewords and Eternal Love.

I read this as part of a buddy read and it is one I have wanted to read for a while. I read Of Mice and Men as part of my school studies many many years ago and I found I really enjoyed it and liked Steinbeck’s writing style so I thought I would give this a go.

Book Tour – review of Far From The Tree by Rob Parker

I love a good thriller and I must admit it has been a while since I have read one. So I was honoured when Red Dog Press invited me to take part in this book tour.

Far From The Tree is the first novel in Rob Parker’s Thirty Miles trilogy and is set in Warrington, a small town where murders are a rare occurrence. But when 27 bodies are uncovered, vacuum packed, wrapped in plastic in a woodland trench, DI Brendan Foley finds himself  assigned as Senior Investigating Officer. But then as details unfold and bodies are identified he realises that this case a little too close to home, things get too personal and when feelings are involved, things get messy. Book Review – Good Sister by Sally Hepworth

This is another book I received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

So without further ado, let’s have a bit of a blurb:

Years ago, Fern did something very, very bad. And Rose has never told a soul. When Fern decides to help her sister achieve her heart’s desire of having a baby, Rose realizes with growing horror that Fern might make choices that can only have a terrible outcome. What Rose doesn’t realize is that Fern is growing more and more aware of the secrets Rose, herself, is keeping. And that their mother might have the last word after all.

The first thing that I loved about this book is that it has a dual narrative structure which in my opinion is a fantastic writer’s tool to bring the characters and story to life. The story is told by both sisters, Fern and Rose. The language used in the narratives is very clever in that the character’s voice clearly comes out and after a while you can tell which twin it is simply by the language.

Good Sister is a great story full of mystery, suspense, twists and turns. It is a beautiful, heartfelt tale of love, devotion, duty and how quickly things can turn dark. It follows the twin sister’s life with flashbacks to their life and to that one day which changed the course of many people’s lives.

This will keep you enthralled as you fall into the sister’s worlds. Fern is a wonderful character, who is loving, caring, generous and often awkward at times due to her social anxiety. She also has sensory sensitivities which has given her a more sheltered life as she is unable to go to crowded places such as restaurants and bars. However her safe place is also where she works, her local library. There she can be herself and as a complete bookworm is perfectly placed to help others find their big next read.

The whole story was a wonderful read and it will leave you on the edge of your seat until the end.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ – thrilling, heart warming and dark all at the same time. A true joy to read,would highly recommend.
